GES Glossary (Solar Power Terms)

GES (Güneş Enerji Santrali)
Solar Power Plant
A system that generates electrical energy from sunlight using photovoltaic (PV) technology.

EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction)
Refers to companies that handle engineering, design, material supply, and construction of solar power plants from start to finish.

EPC Company
An engineering company capable of managing all stages of a solar project — from design and procurement to complete installation and commissioning.

PV (Photovoltaic)
Short for Photo Voltaic; refers to the solar cells or panels that convert sunlight into electrical energy.

Mounting Structure (Konstrüksiyon)
The steel or aluminum structure used to mount solar panels on the ground or roof.
It ensures proper positioning, stability, and long-term durability of panels.

Solar Cable / DC Cable
Cables that carry direct current (DC) from solar panels to the inverter.
They must be flame-retardant, UV-resistant, and sized correctly for current capacity to ensure long-term reliability and safety.

ATP (Main Distribution Panel)
Main Combiner or Main Distribution Panel
This is the central panel where electricity from all inverters is collected.
Energy can be switched on/off from this point before being sent to the transformer output busbar.

Inverter (Evirici)
A device that converts DC power from solar modules into AC power for use or grid connection.
Types include Grid-Tied, Off-Grid, and Hybrid inverters.

Grid
Means the electricity network.
A grid system is a solar setup connected to the public electricity network.

Off-Grid
Independent systems that operate without a grid connection, often using batteries or hybrid setups to supply power continuously.

Hybrid Systems
Power plants that combine multiple energy sources (for example: biomass + solar + wind).
Through automation, they can provide stable, 24-hour energy output from different generation sources.
