Cylindrical and Prismatic Cells: Key Facts to Know!

LiFePO4 cells are generally categorized into two types: cylindrical and prismatic.

  • Cylindrical cells consist of an anode, cathode, separator, and electrolyte. The electrodes are wound into a cylinder and placed inside a metal casing. They have high energy density.

  • Prismatic cells are formed by stacking the cathode, anode, separator, and electrolyte materials on top of each other. They have a rectangular shape and offer more advantages compared to cylindrical cells. They can also be customized according to design requirements.

Cylindrical or Prismatic Cells for Your Application?

The choice of cell type depends on the intended application. First, it is essential to determine what type of equipment or device the cells will be used in, as well as the power requirements. When choosing between cells, factors such as safety risks and user convenience should be prioritized over cost considerations.

Orbit Lithium Batteries support both cell types; however, batteries made of prismatic cells provide easier production advantages.
